Before being integrated in its housing or in the final product, an assembled board should undergo several electrical checks to verify all the components. A missing or wrong value component, as well as a short circuit or an open on the soldered pads, may create problems difficult to diagnose in the subsequent phases.

Parametric testing, often considered unnecessary at the design level, can save a considerable amount of  product costs: it decreases repairs, eliminates defects which can not be detected with a functional test, enables production technicians to autonomously screen for process faults and stabilize the quality in output, specially when functional test is not mandated.
